India continued to dominate the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Day 4 and now smell victory. After resuming with a 244-run lead, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant added the runs quickly that put India firmly in control and set the stage for a massive declaration. Â
Ravindra Jadeja joined the attack, remaining unbeaten on 69. This left England staring at a nearly impossible chase of 608 runs. Â
England’s reply began badly. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Zak Crawley for a duck, followed soon after by Akash Deep removing Ben Duckett, leaving the hosts reeling at 30/2. Akash Deep also cleaned up Joe Root as the stumps approached. England finished the day at 72/3.Â

India resumed Day 4 with positive intent. KL Rahul notched up a brisk 55 before Josh Tongue broke through. Karun Nair fell cheaply and failed to convert the start as Brydon Carse dismissed him.
Rishabh Pant, played expressively. He scored 65 runs off 58 deliveries before falling to Shoaib Bashir. He formed a 110-run partnership with Shubman Gill, who continued his good run in the series.
The Indian captain played his shots and reached another century, his third in the series. Gill now has scored more than 550 runs in the series. He became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score a double-century and a century in the same Test match. His aggregate of 430 runs in the Edgbaston Test is the highest by an Indian batter in the men’s Test history.
Ravindra Jadeja partnered with Gill, stitching a 175-run stand for the fifth wicket. Gill perished in the 81st over off Bashir.Â
With Jadeja unbeaten on 69, India chose to declare in the 83rd over at 427/6, setting a formidable target of 608 runs for England.
