Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh steps up to aid his home state, which was affected by the heavy floods, as he assisted the affected people with funds and resources, highlighting support amid ongoing monsoon challenges.

Harbhajan Singh helped by sanctioning 11 steamer boats and a few ambulances, and also raising funds through his personal network. Using his MPLAD fund, Harbhajan has sanctioned eight steamer boats for relief work and added three more from his own pocket, as confirmed by a source close to him to PTI.

"Harbhajan donated 11 steamer boats in all. Eight from his MPLAD fund and three more from his own pocket. Each boat costs around Rs 4.5 to Rs 5.5 lakh. He has also bought three ambulances for the smooth transfer of serious patients to nearby hospitals," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The cricketer also reached out to his wide network of friends and well-wishers for help. As per the source, one sports organisation donated ₹30 lakh in response to Harbhajan’s appeal, while two of his close friends pitched in with ₹12 lakh and ₹6 lakh respectively.

"Around ₹50 lakh has already been collected and donated," the source said, adding that essentials like food and medicine are also being regularly supplied to the affected families.

The land of five rivers has been facing a severe flood crisis in recent weeks, with heavy monsoon rains and breaches in river embankments causing massive displacement and crop damage. Several districts are still waterlogged, as the state government and volunteer groups continue rescue and relief efforts.
