Former West Indies batter Chris Gayle has backed his former RCB teammate Sarfraz Khan, as he feels his selection snub was unfair despite his hard work and consistency over the years.
Chris Gayle, who addressed this, believes that Sarfraz Khan's weight should not be a reason for excluding him from selection. Sarfraz, who was part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025, was dropped from the India tour of England Test squad, despite a good performance for the India A team.

Sarfraz Khan, who was repeatedly sidelined for being overweight, finally got his chance after a consistent run in first-class cricket — but that opportunity didn’t translate into a regular spot in the playing XI. Continuing his snub from the Indian Test team, Sarfraz shed 17 kgs and looks visibly fit in recent photos he shared. Talking about the same, Chris Gayle said Sarfraz deserves more opportunities.
“He should be in the Test side. He should be in the Test squad at least, you know. Scored a century against England at home, not in the squad. I saw a post a couple of days ago. He lost weight. The weight wasn’t even—nothing was wrong with his weight or anything. He’s just fine. He was still scoring runs,” Gayle said.

Further speaking, Gayle added that Sarfraz Khan is a talented player and urged the selectors to back him in the squad.
“The man scored triple centuries in first-class cricket. So if they’re using that against him, that’s sad, you know. They should never use that against him. That youngster should have been a part of the squad 100%. I mean, India has so much talent, man, but give the man a run,” Gayle added.
