Former South African batsman Hashim Amla has recently picked his top three batters. He revealed the names on the sidelines of the World Championship of Legenda 2025. Amla is playing for the South Africa champions in the tournament.

While revealing the batters he followed growing up, Hashim Amla has surprisingly chosen to opt out Sachin Tendulkar, the batting icon. Sachin is the top-scorer in ODI and Test cricket so far. However, despite the batting great having most of the batting records, Amla has decided not to keep him in the list.

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs in ODI and Test cricket. His finished his 24-year international career with 15921 Test runs and 18426 ODI runs. He has also played 200 Test matches, the most by any cricketer in the history of the game. He is also the only batter to score 100 international hundreds.

Hashim Amla Names His Favourite Batters

Meanwhile, Hashim Amla revealed that Steve Waugh, Brian Lara and Jacques Kallis were the three batters he followed growing up.

"There are so many over the years. Growing up, my three favourite players were Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis, also being from South Africa," said Amla.

He also kept modern greats Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers in the lost besides naming another former legend in Viv Richads.

"But also maybe three other names: you’ve got Virat (Kohli) in recent times, AB de Villiers, and I’d say one more old one — Sir Vivian Richards” Amla added saying.

Amla will turn up for the South Africa champions on Tuesday, July 22, against the India Champions at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This will be the first match for the India Champions after they backed out against Pakistan Champions due to the recent political tensions between the two countries.

India-Pakistan WCL Match Cancalled

The WCL organisers, through an official statement, announced that the fixture that was scheduled to happen at Edgbaston, Birmingham, has been cancelled.

“After hearing the news that the Pakistan hockey team will be coming to India this year, and seeing the recent India vs Pakistan volleyball match along with a few other fixtures between the two nations in different sports, we thought of continuing with the India vs Pakistan match at WCL, just to create some happy memories for people around the globe. But maybe in the process, we ended up hurting the feelings of many and stirring emotions.Hence, we have decided to call off the India-Pakistan match. We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans,” the statement read.
