Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer finally opened up on his omission from the Asia Cup squad, calling it a frustrating moment as he expected a selection call.
It was a huge surprise to fans and experts after seeing the name of Shreyas missing from the Asia Cup squad. The Punjab Kings skipper had a stellar season with the bat in the IPL 2025; however, he was not picked in the squad, with the selectors citing the reason of squad balance during the squad announcement.

Ahead of the unofficial Test, Shreyas expressed his 'frustration' over being ignored for the Asia Cup squad.
"It is only frustrating when you know that you deserve to be in the team, in the playing XI. That time, it was frustrating," he said in an iQOOO podcast.

However, Shreyas understood the reason behind the snub, and he’s ready to support the team, saying he’ll be happy as long as India wins the tournament.
"But at the same time, when you know that someone is performing and playing consistently for the team and bringing out their best, you support them. Eventually, the goal is for the team to win, and when the team is winning, everyone is happy.

"But as I keep talking about integrity, if you don’t get a chance, you have to see to it that you do your work ethically. It’s not like you have to perform only when someone is watching. Even when no one is watching, you have to keep doing your work. That’s integrity," he added.
During the podcast, he also revealed that winning the Champions Trophy was "the best feeling ever." Aiming to make a comeback, he pointed out that preparation was key, and he needed to put in a good performance.

Speaking about returning to the team, Shreyas highlighted his preparation:
"As we always say, you have to trust your preparation. When you prepare in a certain way, whatever happens on the field is just a reflection of what you’ve done off it," Shreyas Iyer concluded.
